2016 was a landmark year for the Italian outdoor furniture brand with the appointment of a new art director, coastal-inspired new designs from Christophe Pillet and exciting - and technologically advanced - new metallic finishes.
Long-time Serralunga collaborator, Christophe Pillet, introduced his new Pine Beach collection: sofa and small armchairs inspired in the softness and sinuosity of coastlines.
There were also collaborations with new designers. Shin Azumi has designed Bulbil, a stool that looks like a bulb and is made from of a mixture of polyethylene and wood.
Designer Garth Roberts conceived the Juju, an easy-to-handle side table that is small in size and whose playful name matches the mood of its proportions.
The Bay lounge chair by Raffaella Mangiarotti is characterised by a seam marking where the seat meets the exterior and on the bake, a subtle break in the smooth contour.
New metallic finishes
In exciting news from the brand Serralunga now offer an exclusive special metallic finishing. The finish is the result of an innovative new manufacturing process through which metal can be applied to a plastic surface without the application of heat.
The final result is a product that boasts all the characteristics of a piece of metal, including structure, shine and heat conductibility, and yet is incredibly light thanks to its polyethylene structure.
The treated product feels and acts as if it were completely coated with molten metal - the finishing is metal for all intents and purposes. This is not a metallic paint, but a metal composite.
The final surface is incredibly durable even for outdoor use, resistant to sun rays, completely stable when exposed to water or the elements, and all the while extremely easy to handle and to transport thanks to its light weight.
The new finishing is available in Opaque Titanium, Opaque Copper, Opaque Bronze, Brown and Dark Grey.
