Glas Italia's 2016 collection is defined by chromatic effects, patterned storage units, glass that has been manipulated to create shimmering mirage-like effects and new tables.
Glas Italia consistently pushes the envelope with their research and development, progress glass manufacturing with advanced techniques. Their 2016 collection is both elegant and distinctive.
An undisputed highlight is the Prism partition by Tokujin Yoshioka. The dividing screen is made from faceted, high-transparency mirrored glasses peppered with random curves. The glass surface refracts light to create a mirage-like effect.
Patterned storage units by Nendo and Piero Lissoni
Two new storage units join the range - Layers by Nendo and Commodore by Piero Lissoni.
Layers is a series of striking bookshelves with the front partially obscured by geometric panels of transparent coloured glass. The overlapping effect of the glass creates a constantly changing chromatic imagery. The unit is available in two version - a warm-toned version and a cool-toned version.
Commodore is a range of storage units featuring striped of checked printed glass surfaces, mirror lacquered details and glossy chromium-plated metal legs.
Low tables and dining tables by the biggest names in design
Patricia Urquiola's iridescent Shimmer series continues to be a favourite. This year a series of Shimmer dining tables have been introduced to the collection and a new round Shimmer mirror.
Another new release is Narcissus by Naoto Fukasawa. The square table has an organically shaped central pillar that is reminiscent of water flowing downwards. Both table top and the base are made of Mirror glass.
Philippe Starck has designed the Lady Hio table series. The designs feature handblown glass legs attached to a glass top with specially finished feet in brushed or anodised aluminum in a range of metallic colours.
Finally, the Bouroullec brothers have employed complex manufacturing processes in their Nesting tables. The low square table is made of extremely thick poured glass with blown glass legs that are completely embedded and welded into the top. The colours of the top and legs can be the same, or mixed to create chromatic variations.
