Edra's latest sofa is essentially elegant while their surreal new Ines lamp displays the Italian company's dedication to creativity and craftsmanship.
Francesco Binfarè has designed the Essential sofa. His third sofa for Edra, it includes the same technology pioneered within the Standard and Absolu sofas he designed for the Italian company.
Binfarè invented the 'smart' cushion. The technology allows cushions to act as both armrest and backrest by modelling themselves into infinite positions with the slightest pressure.
"It has simple and essential elegance," says Binfarè of the Essential. "It has an objective beauty that transcends emotion, and extreme modularity which makes it suitable for any environment."
At the Salone, Essential was shown in velvet, chenille and leather
The Ines is a lamp with the dynamics and proportions of an inverted chandelier.
Designed by Jacopo Foggini, the light is designed to be anthropomorphic, mimicking the shape of a languid woman with long legs.
"I was inspired by Giacometti, and Tim Burton, and Salvador Dali," says Foggini. Foggini is known for his luminously coloured transparent pieces for Edra, Ines is new in its aesthetic.
"Instead of working the colour in the transparency, the effect is a metallic look with 'gold' dripped as wax, in an irregular manner," the designer says.
